Dare to stand as the Soul,
Rejoice and align with celestial forces at CoSM's Winter Solstice/Full Moon Celebration this Saturday night. Start the creative journey with us in an afternoon workshop on "Visioning Your Highest Intentions." First, we will meditate on our highest intention for the year and for our lives, examining models of altruism from various wisdom traditions. Then, we will spell out our highest intentions and learn the technique of making sigyls, magic symbols that can remind us of our goals, empowering icons for an altar for meditative focus. Finally, we will visualize ourselves as embodying our intention and draw a symbol directly from our imagination. Sharing the collective visionary energy, we plant seeds of awakening that will become the soul flowers of our future. Summon and supercharge your most uplifting insights for 2014 with spiritual and creative friends. Dinner is included! Looking for something special for your beloved? The gift store will be open and we will be there to personalize.

For millennia, winter solstice celebrations have heralded the return of the light. Autumn's lengthening darkness and the apparent death of nature leave trees bare and seemingly lifeless. As cold settles in and the light diminishes day by day, it is a time of increasing bleakness. With the reversal of the sun's ebbing presence in the sky, the sun god is reborn and festivals of light are celebrated throughout the world.
Christ represents the Godself in each of us, the light of the divine becoming human. The remembrance of Jesus Christ's holy birth is observed on December 25th, just following the solstice in alignment with the return of the light. Centuries before Christianity replaced the cults of Rome, the same date commemorated the birth of Mithra and later Sol Invictus, the official Sun God of the Roman empire.
In the painting Holy Familythe golden child points upward toward the One Light illuminating all wisdom traditions. A halo of enlightened vision surrounding the child's head brings together symbols of world religions. Although danger lurks below, parents adore the child with the earth as it's heart, carrying hope for the future of humanity.
In cycles of light and darkness to Earth,
Touching our Hearts where love is cradled.
Christ, the Godself, is reborn in us,
Illuminating and healing any breach with Spirit.
Christ, the Godself, is our highest possibility,
A bridge of spectral Light
Both personal and universal,
From the gross material to subtle astral,
To visionary jewels,
Originating as One Transcendental Ground,
Sundered from all twoness.
Christ, the Godself, reborn as the light of Spirit,
Glowing in our heart manger.
